Fat Burning Supplements: What You Need to Know
We will begin by explaining the different types of fat in the body. The word “fat” is often used broadly to describe all body fat, however, there are actually different types of fat cells. The main types of fat cells are white and brown. They can be stored as essential, visceral, or subcutaneous.
White fat is what most people immediately think of, and is often described as “bad” fat, although it is necessary to have a small amount in order for the body to function properly and regulate hormones. It is made up of large cells that are stored beneath the skin (subcutaneous) and around organs (visceral) and are the body’s way of storing energy for later use when excess calories are consumed. Too much of this fat can be very detrimental to your health, especially when visceral fat is high.
Brown fat is a metabolically active thermogenic tissue, meaning it burns energy to maintain body temperature.It is considered to be highly beneficial as it helps the body burn calories rather than store them.
So, when it comes to burning fat, it is the white fat that we are targeting. Making dietary changes and following an exercise program are the most important factors in achieving fat loss. Most of us are aware that there is no such thing as a “magic pill”, however, there are many supplements that can help the process along with diet and exercise.
Common Fat-Burning Ingredients
L-Carnitine:Carnitine is an important amino acid that the body is able to produce on its own with the help of methionine and lysine and plays a significant role in boosting metabolism. It works by transporting fatty acids from food into the mitochondria of the cell, thus allowing fat to be used for energy. It also helps prevent muscle fatigue and improves energy levels.
Green Coffee Bean:Green Coffee beans contain Chlorogenic Acid, which studies show may reduce carbohydrate absorption in the digestive track and therefore reduce blood sugar levels and prevent insulin spikes. It may also help with fat metabolism and reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels. All of this suggests great fat-burning potential, which is why it is used in nearly every weight loss formula.
Grains of Paradise:This is aherb that is increasingly being utilized for its fat burning effects. It works by activating brown fat, and therefore increasing calorie expenditure and regulating blood sugar.
CLA:Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)is an omega-6 fatty acid thatworks as a powerful antioxidant, anti- carcinogen, ant-catabolite, and supports the immune system. Its fat burning effects are due to its ability to increase insulin sensitivity and improve lean mass to body fat ratio, decreasing fat storage.
Raspberry Leaf:Raspberry leaf has many health benefits and is a common ingredient in fat burning products and can also be consumed as tea. It has shown to improve metabolic function and help the body use fat for energy. It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and digestive aid which both support fat loss.
Ephedrine:Ephedrine is extracted and refined from a shrub called Ephedra Sinica and is a powerful stimulant and appetite suppressant. It increases the metabolic rate as well as increases the activity of beta-receptors, which trigger the release of energy stored in fat cells. This is a supplement that should be used with relative caution. It is not addictive however some people can become dependent on the stimulating effects. Those who experience high anxiety or have heart problems should avoid taking this or at least consult their doctor before doing so.
